Choose While You Still Can: Resist or Succumb

The NGO Industrial Complex Is the Many-Headed Beast

The beasts of Revelation 13 have become something of a theme here. I’ve relied on Richard Draper’s commentary, The Revelation of John the Apostle, which goes through the Greek phrase by phrase, with both literal translation and commentary based on history and context. (I do not read Greek; I depend on experts such as Draper.)

Why do I keep bringing this up? Because we’re seeing it live out before us—or, at the very least, it’s a useful metaphor for what we’re seeing play out on the world stage.

Draper’s commentary describes the Revelation 13 sea beast as very similar to the dragon of an earlier chapter. The “abyss” it comes from, or the “sea,” represents the spiritual storehouse of evil. And it spans from nation to nation:

It represents not one demonic institution or power but all institutions and powers across time. (p. 674)

I’ve been fascinated by the one mortally wounded head that revives, in verse 3. My personal interpretation of this is the wounding of communism/socialism/Marxism, which happened when we won WWII and subsequently the Cold War. Who could have thought, after such a victory over such profound evil, that just a few decades later we would be facing what we face today—this very week in elections?

The beast should have died from the wound, but it didn’t. Now the world “marvels” at the recovery, and seems convinced that it is invincible—and therefore one is better off succumbing or even supporting this beast, because, as evil always says, “Resistance is futile.”

I know how the ending of the book turns out. I don’t know how this election turns out. But resistance is not futile. Resistance puts us on the Lord’s side, not on this anti-Christ beast’s side.

Most of us don’t go through life thinking we’re on the bad side. But maybe a good many of us ought to be asking, “Are we the baddies?” Because maybe you don’t know enough to know.
